Summary
Small businesses often go overboard when it comes to making their marketing strategies. Or they skip them altogether.
If you’re plagued by overthinking, here’s how I break it down into 3 starting steps:
- Identify your customer, their problems, and where they are
- Set 1 or 2 specific goals with deadlines
- Write down relevant tactics

Today on your minute of marketing, we are talking about building a simple marketing strategy for your small business.
My name is Jose once again and I am here to help you grow your small business by writing more engaging content.
A lot of times, small business owners get stuck thinking about developing a marketing strategy because they are thinking it has to be this giant thing. Then, nothing ends up getting done and you find yourself in a situation where you’re just creating content when you can — maybe putting up a post here or there on your Instagram page or on your Facebook page or something like that.
But you really need a strategy so that you don’t feel like you’re flying an airplane with your eyes closed. You need to know where you’re heading and what you’re trying to accomplish. And basically, it boils down to three simple things that you need to prepare.
The first thing is knowing your customer. Understand what they are struggling with and where they are spending their time because you ultimately want to create content where your customer spends their time. And you want to create content that is answering the questions that they may have.
The second thing is setting goals. You only need one or two goals really for a simple strategy but you need to know exactly what you’re going after, how long it’s going to take for you to get to that goal and what that number actually is. In other words, your goal can’t just be: I want to grow my audience on Instagram. That’s not specific enough! You need to actually know what you want to get to and by when.
The final thing is writing down what tactics you are going to implement in order to get to those goals — and every single one of those tactics you need to understand. You need to see clearly how it will help you get to that goal. If your goal is to grow your audience on Tik Tok, then going and creating content for Twitter isn’t really helping you reach your goal. So make sure that your tactics line up for what you’re trying to achieve.
All right, that’s been your minute of marketing. Thanks for watching.
